Studio 58 alumnus Josh Epstein returns to Langara to direct Cabaret, a wild, risqué, and sultry exploration of the Kit Kat Klub in 1930s Berlin. The show opens January 31 and coincides with the Studio 58 Annual Giving Campaign.
“There are not many spaces like Studio 58, this small, intimate space that bursts with the energy of 27 students from the best acting school in the country,” said Epstein. “To be granted an opportunity to make my directorial debut at my alma mater on this powerful show is a dream come true.”
Epstein is one of Canada’s most versatile actors. He has appeared in leading roles on stages across the country and has won numerous awards, including four Jessie Awards and the John Hirsch Award for most promising actor from the Stratford Festival. As a writer and producer, Josh has received 25 Leo Award nominations and two Canadian Screenplay Awards ‘Best Screenplay’ nominations.
“It’s wonderful to have such an esteemed alumnus of Studio 58 in our midst again. Not only is Josh Epstein a remarkable actor of musical theatre, he understands the business side of producing art very well,” said David Hudgins, Artistic Director, Studio 58. “These gifts are natural ones for directing the wild and complex Cabaret. We are extremely grateful that our students have a chance to work with such an all-around talented artist.”
